FAQ
Why should I donate my child’s birth tissue?
By donating, you contribute to advancing vital scientific research and extending the impact of birth beyond delivery, creating a lasting legacy that supports future medical progress.
How do I sign up and communicate with my care team?
Click “How it Works” at the top of this page, complete our consent form, and choose your blood-draw timing. We notify your care team, and your on-floor Liaison will confirm details after labor proceeds.
When should I decide and can I delay cord clamping?
We recommend signing up between weeks 36 and 38 of pregnancy. Yes, you can delay cord clamping as planned; our process integrates seamlessly with your birth plan.
Why do I need to qualify to donate?
A brief health questionnaire ensures the safety and compliance of the donation for both you and your baby.
Is donation safe, and will it affect my hospital experience?
All collections are performed by trained hospital staff within your normal care routine. A quick check-in after birth is the only extra step, with no changes to your standard care.
How and when is the birth tissue collected and transported?
Within 30 minutes of delivery, your Liaison collects the tissue in our sterile Nova Kit, scans its barcode at each handoff, and our procurement team ships it to our lab by FedEx same-day or next-day cutoff.
How do I prepare for birth tissue collection?
No special preparation is needed. Sign up online and let your care team know at admission, our Liaison handles the rest.
How will my donation be used?
Nova Nata partners with accredited labs and research centers to advance approved studies in regenerative medicine. Your gift directly contributes to new treatments.
Is there any cost or fees for me?
Donation is completely free. We cover all collection, shipping, and testing expenses, there are no fees to you or your hospital.
Can I change my mind or withdraw consent?
Yes. You can withdraw at any time, just inform your Liaison in the hospital or feel free to reach out through our “Contact Support” form at the bottom of this page.
Is Nova Nata a private or public bank, and how is it different from cord blood banks?
Nova Nata is a dedicated birth tissue donation service that partners with hospitals and research centers. Unlike private cord blood banks that store samples for individual families, we aggregate tissue donations to accelerate research.
